We will go on a trip on a motor sailing yacht, which has a steel insulated hull and two helm stations with a captain's cabin. The yacht is 14 meters long and 4 meters wide. The vessel is equipped with all the necessary equipment for safe autonomous travel: satellite communications, modern navigation system and emergency rescue equipment. The ship has everything you need for a comfortable journey: refrigerator, gas stove, toilet, shower, sound system, TV. Three cabins are provided to accommodate passengers: bow, stern and wardroom.
Day 1
We meet at the airport, receive our luggage and go to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. For this day we have planned a sightseeing tour of the city. In the evening we will stop by the seaport, meet our team and visit the yacht. We will discuss the upcoming trip. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 2
In the morning we are going on a yacht and after a short briefing we leave for the Pacific Ocean. We go south along the coast of Kamchatka. We are looking for marine mammals, for which we will stop at the picturesque Three Brothers rocks, and not far from the Russian Bay we will look for killer whales. We get used to life on a yacht and get acquainted.
Day 3 - 12
Our experience in organizing travels in the Northern Kuriles made us abandon a clear-cut expedition plan. The weather here is very variable, storms and dense fogs are frequent, so it will not be possible to follow a clear plan. As they say, nothing happens at sea. Instead, we left the locations that we plan to get to during the expedition.
Onekotan Island
Onekotan is the Pearl of the Northern Kuriles. The island is so inaccessible that no more than 200 people a year land on it. The unique Krenitsyn volcano is located in the south of the island. Standing in an ancient water-filled caldera, it is the tallest double volcano in the world. An 8 km long hiking trail leads to the Koltsevoy Lake , inside of which there is a volcano. The ascent along it is not difficult and any healthy person can do it.
Atlasov Island
Our first Kuril Island is actually one large volcano growing straight out of the water. The height of the Alaid volcano, the highest point of the island, is 2285 meters. In 1937, near Atlasov Island, a small, slightly more than 100 meters in height, the youngest volcano in the Kuril Islands - Taketomi volcano - grew out of the water. Climbing this volcano is not difficult, and the views from its top leave an indelible impression.
Shumshu Island
An island located between Kamchatka and Paramushir. The place of the last battle of the Second World War, where the Kuril landing operation took place in August 1945. In the 40s of the XX century, the Japanese created a chain of permanent fortifications and airfields on the island, which are still in good condition. This island is an open-air museum, which is attended by no more than a hundred people a year. Near the airfield are the remains of wounded and destroyed fighters of the Second World War, and not far from the village of Baikovo, steles are installed in honor of the first settlers and liberators of the Kuril Islands.
Paramushir Island
It is the largest island in the Northern Kuriles, with the administrative center of the region - the city of Severo-Kurilsk. Right at the port of the city there is a whole fleet of dead ships, and not far from the center, the most active volcano in this region, Ebeko, is spewing ash. In good weather, you can try to climb this volcano. The main thing is not to get too close to the crater - ash emissions are very dangerous.
Day 13
In the afternoon we return to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. In the evening we will celebrate our return in one of the city's restaurants. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 14
Visit to the fish market. Transfer to the airport.
Attention! At sea, much will depend on the weather. Winds and fogs, which are not uncommon here, can impede landings or delay us on the way. In any case, everything will be done for a successful and safe journey.
