Day 1
Meeting at the Nairobi airport. Depending on the time of arrival of the plane at the airport, options: check into a hotel in Nairobi or immediately transfer to the area of Nanyuki (approximately 5 hours).
Day 2
Immediately after breakfast, transfer from Nairobi to Nanyuki, where you will have lunch. After lunch, transfer to Gathiuru forest station, from where you will begin a 4-hour climb through dense stands of towering bamboo to the Giant Bamboo Camp at an altitude of 2600 meters. Elephants and buffaloes meet here.
Day 3
Before we ascend into the rosewood zone on the edge of the moorlands, we will pass lush bamboo, which then gives way to a huge podocarp and pencil cedar forest. At this place we will have lunch, and then we will begin to climb up through the extraordinary giant lobelias and groundsels. We spend the night at the sheer lava cliffs of the "Highland Castle" at 3700 m. Today's hike takes 5-6 hours with an ascent of 1100 m.
Day 4
Breathtaking landscapes of jagged volcanic peaks and shimmering glaciers dominate our route around the summit. Turquoise tarns nestle in valleys, eagles and buzzards soar overhead - it's hard to believe we're at the equator! Here we can meet other travelers for the first time. We will walk for about 5-6 hours before spending the night in Shipton Camp at an altitude of 4200 meters.
Day 5
Predawn start for the summit attempt. We will walk along steep screes and a bare rocky path to the summit. From here to the summit of Lenana (4985 m) you will need 3 hours and you need to be in time before sunrise. At the top you will have good panoramic views and of course you will see the highest mountain in Africa - Kilimanjaro, which is located about 340 km to the south. Then we will start a 2-3 hour descent to the Hall Tarns (4300 m), where we will have a hearty breakfast and spend the whole day here to rest and relax after the ascent. Our campsite is located close (but not too close) to the top of a 300-meter cliff overlooking the Gorges Valley.
Day 6
In the morning, we begin a smooth descent along a wide ridge, from where a magnificent view of the valley, snow-capped peaks, waterfalls, tarns and streams of frozen lava in the valley of the gorges opens up. Overnight in Kenya Bandas hut (2900 m), log fires, hot showers, beds. Perhaps trucks will come here and then you will have a Tusker beer! In the evening, wildlife can be observed: elephants and buffaloes often graze outside of our huts, as well as a large of forest and moorland birds.
Day 7
Three hours walk down through the bamboo forest to meet our vehicles for the return journey to Nairobi, arriving in the late afternoon.
