Very early transfer (45 min.) To the La Conejera parking area (4151 m), from where our trek begins. The ascent starts from the "Paramo" (grassland) section along a well-marked trail, which is constantly gaining height to the edge of the glacier (4680 m). Due to its location, the glacier offers a beautiful view of the northern part of the park. Then we move for about 20 minutes along the glacier. There are two options for climbing Nevado Santa Isabel: North (4965 m) or Central (4925 m) summits. The decision can be made on site depending on the weather and mountain conditions, as well as the fitness of the team members and how they handle the altitude. The northern summit is the most difficult, it runs along a longer moraine, which becomes rather steep and difficult to pass before reaching the Northern Glacier.
From here, the ascent to the dome-shaped summit is fairly straightforward. The center vertex, on the other hand, is much closer in distance, but a little more difficult just below the summit, requiring you to go through an easy section of scrambling that leads to the apex.
On clear days, both peaks offer fantastic views of Nevado del Ruiz (the tallest of the volcanoes in the park, currently limited by volcanic activity), La Oleta crater and Manizales valley. Descent along the same trail, then transfer back (45 min.) To the "Campo Alegre" farm for the night at a higher altitude (3970 m).

Early in the morning trek to the lower Asomadera ridge (4139 m), the border between the states of Caldas and Risaralda, the trail starts a few meters from the Campo Alegre farm. The first part is an old road used only by the national park authorities. The road goes through pasture fields, slowly gaining height to the ridge. From this place, you can take a short walk to the observation deck and look at Lake Otun. Then we go along the path known as the "enchanted forest", through the very well-preserved forest of Failejones (endemic plants of the Northern Andes). The hike goes down to the lake drain, from where a beautiful almost flat trail leads to camping El Otun (3933 m), located at the hut of the national park. From "Kebrada" begins a gentle ascent along one of the most colorful and beautiful crater valleys on the route. The ascent will lead to the Berlin Pass (3964 m) and then descend to the goal of the day: Berlin Mountain Farm (3848 m), located at the bottom of a deep valley.

After a good lunch break, the team will climb the extinct volcano El Paramillo del Quindio, the highest peak in the state of Quindio. Most of our trail will be along slippery talus that runs in an almost straight line up to the ridge, called "El Caballet", from where the ascent follows along a very impressive red sandy ridge to the main peak (4745 m). El Paramillo has one of the best views in the park as it is located almost in the center of the park with 360-degree panoramic views. On clear days, all three main peaks can be seen: northern Nevado Santa Isabel (4965 m) and Nevado del Ruiz (5321 m) and southern Nevado del Tolima (5221 m). Descent along the same trail to the wetlands, and further down the southern slope of the Cardenas Valley to the La Linea mountain pass (4019 m), which separates the departments of Quindio and Tolima. Nevado del Tolima (5221 m) is an active volcano and the third highest peak in the central Cordillera.
