Day 1
Arrival in Lima at night (sleep in hotel)
Day 2
Travel from Lima to Huaraz in the morning by Bus or Plane (sleep in hotel)
Day 3
Acclimatization day - Churup Lake (4450 m). We’ll leave from Huaraz city towards east, passing through villages as Unchus and Llupa, up to the place called Pitec (3860 m), where we have to pay the entrance fee at the Huascaran National Park control post, then start hiking in an ascending path, observing mountains as Huamashraju, Cashan and Shacsha also crop fields can be seen. This place houses a diversity of flora and fauna such as the wild duck, plants with healing properties and quenual tree forests. To reach this lake we have to climb rocks helped by a steady metal rope, ideal for those who love the adventure or take other path less challenging. Churup is a beautiful blue lake one of the most frequently visited, surrounded by Ichu grass, Quenual trees, wild flowers, etc. thereґs also a smaller lake on the east side for those who want to continue hiking, both lakes are right below the mountain with the same name, then return to Huaraz city.
Day 4
Huaraz - Chiquian (3200 m) - Llamac (3250 m). We’ll leave from the huaraz city by van towards the Chiquian City, passing through cities of the Callejon de Huaylas as Recuay, Ticapampa, Catac observing the mountain chain of the Cordillera Blanca and the Conococha lake (4050 m). Making a short stop in Chiquian, then continue up to the Llamac village, where weґll camp and meet the donkey drivers and donkeys who will accompany us during the trekking.
Day 5
Llamac - Quartelhuain (4200 m). In our way to Quartelhuain weґll follow the Llamac river, passing through villages as Pocpa (3475 m) and Palca (3825 m), observing mining campsites and a variety of wild flora and fauna, and the Ninashanca mountain (5607 m), and finally reach the Quartelhuain campsite. About 5 to 6 hours.
Day 6
Quartelhuian - Cacananpunta Pass (4700 m) - Mitucocha Lake (4230 m). We’ll ascend up to the Cacananpunta Pass, where we can find medicinal plants, and in the distance observe the Cordillera Huallanca and the Pucacocha lake, then descend to the place called Janca and reach the Mitucocha Campsite, from where we observe mountains as Ninashanca (5607 m), Rondoy (5870 m), Jirishanca (6094 m), Jirishanca chico (5446 m). About 5 to 6 hours.
Day 7
Mitucocha Lake - Carhuac Pass (4640 m) - Carhuacocha Lake (4138 m). From the Mitucocha Campsite weґll ascend to the Carhuac Pass, through the Yana-Yana valley, and reach the Carhuacocha Campsite, where we have the famous view of mountains of the Cordillera Huayhuash as Jirishanca chico (5446 m), Jirishanca (6094 m), Yerupaja chico (6089 m), Yerupaja (6617 m) and Carnicero (5960 m). About 5 to 6 hours.
Day 8
Rest day. We'll visit the Gangrajanca, Siula and Quesillococha Lakes.
Day 9
Carhuacocha Lake - Siula Pass (4834 m) - Huayhuash (4345 m). We'll pass through the three beautiful lakes of Gangrajanca, Siula and Quesillococha, walking uphill weґll reach a natural lookout from where we have a spectacular view of these lakes as well as mountains as Jirishanca chico (5446 m), Jirishanca (6094 m), El Toro (5965 m), Yerupaja (6617 m), Siula (6344 m) and El Carnicero (5960 m), then reach the Siula Pass from where we can observe mountains as Puscanturpa (5652 m), Trapecio (5653 m), Jurau (5674 m) and the Cordillera Raura, then descend observing the Carnicero lake and finally reach the Huayhuash campsite. About 7 to 8 hours.
Day 10
Huayhuash - Portachuelo or Huayhuash Pass (4785 m) - Viconga Lake (4400 m). Portachuelo or Huayhuash Pass is the limit of the departments of Huanuco and Lima, from this pass we can observe mountains such as Pumarinri (5465 m), Cuyoc (5550 m), Puscanturpa (5652 m), Millpo (5330 m) and the Cordillera Raura, as well as herds of Alpacas and Llamas, and walk near the viconga lake and reach the campsite where there are natural hot spring baths. About 5 to 6 hours.
Day 11
Viconga Lake - Cuyoc Pass (5000 m) - Guanacpatay (4300 m). We'll ascend up to the Cuyoc Pass, with beautiful views of mountains as Pumarinri (5465 m), Cuyoc (5550 m), Trapecio (5644 m), Jurau (5650 m), Carnicero (5960 m), Sarapo (6127 m), Siula (6344 m, Yerupaja (6634 m), Rasac (6017 m), Huacrish (5622 m), Rosario (5557 m) and others, as well as Cordillera Raura, then descend to the Guanacpatay campsite. About 5 to 6 hours.
Day 12
Guanacpatay - Huatiac (4253 m). After leaving from Huatiac campsite we'll walk in an ascending path through Guanacpatay valley, passing through the Huayllapa village, then ascend again through Huancho valley and reach the Huatiac campsite, from where we can observe mountains as Tapush (5223 m), Diablomudo (5223 m), Angocancha (5450 m) and Juituhuarco (5449 m). About 6 to 7 hours.
Day 13
Huatiac - Punta Tapush Pass (4760 m) - Yauchapunta Pass (4847 m) – Jahuacocha Lake (4100 m). This day we'll pass through Inka Wain Campsite and ascend to the Punta Tapush Pass, from where we have views of mountains as Tapush (5223 m), Diablomudo (5223 m) and the Susucocha lake, then ascend passing the limits of Ancash and Lima Departament, weґll also pass through Cashpapampa campsite the Base Camp of Diablomudo mountain (easy to climb), then ascend again through Ancocancha valley, visiting small lakes and reach the Yauchapunta Pass, from where we have a panoramic view of mountains as Rasac (6017 m), Yerupaja (6634 m), Yerupaja (Chico 6121 m), Jirishanca (6094 m), Rondoy (5879 m) and Ninashanca (5607 m), and finally descend through the Huacrish valley and reach our last campsite at Jahuacocha. About 6 to 7 hours.
Day 14
Rest day (Optional). We can visit the following places.
- The Yaucha Pass (4800 m), to observe the other side of the mountains of the Cordillera Huayhuash.
- The Cerro Amarillo (Yellow hill).
- The Solteracocha Lake, where we can find remains of a plane that fell in 1954.
Day 15
Jahuacocha Lake - Pampallamac Pass (4300 m) - Llamac - Huaraz (Hotel, Pachamanca dinner) - Lima at night (exit hotel). We’ll ascend to the Pampallamac Pass, the last one in our trek, from where we can observe part of the cordillera blanca, then descend to the llamac village, where our private van will be waiting to take us back to Huaraz city. About 4 to 5 hours. Hotel, Pachamanca dinner.
Day 16
Departure from Huaraz to Lima and Lima – Home. Possible overnight in Lima!!
