Brief information on the area
Hoverla is the highest mountain and the highest point in Ukraine. Hoverla is located on the border of Transcarpathian and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. Belongs to the ridge of Montenegro in the Carpathians. The height of the mountain is 2061 m above sea level. From the point of view of mountaineering, only winter ascents are of interest. Most ascents begin from the base of Zaroslyak (1100 m) and the village of Lazeshchyna (Kozmezhchik)
Mount Petros (2020.2 m) is one of the famous two-thousanders of the Ukrainian Carpathians, which is part of the Montenegrin ridge, between the mountains of Goverla, Sheshul. Geographically, this is the Transcarpathian region.
The mountain is called by the Romanians petrós (rocky), therefore its name is not derived from “Peter”, but from the Roman word “stone”. From the point of view of mountaineering, only winter ascents are of interest.
Mount Khomyak (1542 m), located in the southeastern part of Gorgan in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. The height is 1542 m, the difference in height compared to the Prut valley is about 700-800 m. From the point of view of mountaineering, it is not of interest, but Mount Khomyak is a popular point on hiking routes. From the top you can see neighboring mountains and ranges: Sinyak and Dovbushanka (in the north-west), Yavornik (in the north), Lisniv (in the east), behind it the Rocket ridge with the Kosmatskaya mountain. In the southeast, you can see the Montenegrin massif with Goverla.
